NutriBiotic Vitamin C Information

Even if you've never heard of linus Pauling* or Albert Szent- Gyorgyi** you might be aware that our government and the medical industry underestimate the importance of vitamin C to your health and well-being.  Vitamin C is fundamental to life, participating in hundreds of essential biochemical processes every second.

At 60 mg. per day the Recommended daily Value (DB) is enough to prevent scurvy, an end stage disease caused by too little vitamin C.  But how much vitamin C does it take to put your blood levels at that of other species, the vast majority of which possess the internal chemistry to make their own vitamin C?  Judging from comparative data on our animal cousins, vitamin C is no micro-nutrient.  So, since we humans have lost the ability to biosynthesize our own C, what is an optimum intake?

Research on vitamin C has lagged compared to novel chemicals and drugs because multi-billion dollar profits aren't possible on a substance that can't be patented.  But one thing is certain:  to have the human equivalent vitamin C blood level of your dog, cat or parakeet, you need to be taking several grams a day.

*Linus Pauling (1901-1994) Given the 1954 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Also known for his research on vitamin C.

**Albert Szent-Gyorgi (1893-1986) Given the 1937 Nobel Prize in medicine on the biological combustion process with emphasis on vitamin C.

Meta-CŪ

(Capsules, pH 6.2) (Tablets, pH 7.2) and (Powder-pH 7.2) - Food Matrix formed vitamin C with synergistic bioflavonoids and neutral pH, ideal for between meal or high dose therapeutic supplementation.  Protein, lipids, glycoproteins, lipoproteins, nucleoproteins, (RNA/DNA), complex carbohydrates, phytopigments, flavonoids, enzymes, trace elements and fiber from phytoplankton in Meta-C create the advantage of taking vitamin C with a balanced meal.  Protein and fiber from phytoplankton help to bind heavy metal oxidation promoters in the digestive tract, functioning as an antioxidant.

Ascorbic Acid

(Capsules, Tablets, Crystalline Powder - pH 2.1) - This was Dr. Pauling's preferred form of vitamin C.  Its low (acidic) pH can actually be a boon to the digestion of middle agers and those beyond, whose production of digestive acid commonly wanes.  Taken with meals (as it should be), ascorbic acid can actually improve the uptake and utilization of other crucial vitamins and minerals, like iron.  The fine crystalline, easy-to-mix, highest solubility Type 'S' powder is ultra-pure, appropriate for supplemental as well as food preserving applications.  Vitamin C in its simplest and most economical form.

Ascorbic Acid with Bioflavonoids

(Crystalline Powder pH 3.1) - Bioflavonoids are antioxidant cofactors always found with vitamin C in nature.  This ready-to-mix powder combines highest potency (50%) synergistic bioflavonoids with pure ascorbic acid for enhanced biological activity.  Slightly less acidic than ascorbic acid, it's vitamin C with "afterburners".

Ascorbate Bio-C

(Effervescent Powder - pH  5.8) - This product combines the benefits of ascorbic acid with bioflavonoids with essential minerals.  In water or juice the minerals have an acid buffering (alkalizing) effect by combining with vitamin C to form mineral ascorbates.  A significant source of calcium and other key minerals, it is substantially less acidic than ascorbic acid.

Calcium Ascorbate

(Crystalline Powder) - At pH 7.3, this is our most alkaline (buffered) form of vitamin C.  Because the 10% calcium content of this product is fully reacted with and bound to the vitamin C component there is no hint of tartness.  It provides significant levels of calcium with vitamin C in a gentle, alkaline form.  Helpful for those bothered by more acidic forms or people desiring a calcium boost from their vitamin C.

Sodium Ascorbate

(Crystalline Powder - pH 7.1) - Historically a favorite of clinicians who, like vitamin C pioneer Fred Klenner, M.D., prescribe very high doses of vitamin C for therapeutic purposes.  As an alkaline (buffered), fully reacted ascorbate with near neutral pH, it has a high degree of tissue compatibility.  It is the preferred form for intravenous infusion and veterinary applications.  Its modest sodium content can be helpful to those with low adrenal function.  As the sodium is SA is not bound to chloride, it does not tend to promote hypertension.  The most neutral tasting of the alkaline forms of C (somewhat salty), it is often used as an antioxidant in prepared foods.

Ascorbic Acid/Sodium Ascorbate

Crystalline Powder - pH 4.6) Another form of pure vitamin C that is readily disguised in prepared foods, it's also been a favorite among health professional who prescribe mega doses of vitamin C to treat illness.  It combines moderate acidity to enhance digestion with fully-reacted, tissue compatible sodium ascorbate to create a form of vitamin C.  It can also be used in veterinary application with animals accustomed to mildly tart flavors (herbivores and omnivores).

Essential Electrolytes

(Capsules - pH 6.8) - combines 100mg. of vitamin C along with electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, zinc, chromium) for optimal performance.  It is designed to be conveniently carried to the gym or sites of athletic endeavor...or even to the backyard after a tough day behind the mower.  Sport tested for rapid recovery.

Hypo-Aller C

(Effervescent Powder - pH 6.8) - Provides vitamin C as mineral ascorbates when dissolved in water or juice.  In addition to a near neutral pH and being well tolerated by the chemically sensitive, it delivers 350 milligrams of magnesium in a 1:1 ratio with calcium, per serving.  This significant level, along with 99mg. of potassium and 5mg. of zinc, as ascorbates, answers the increasingly recognized need for higher levels of magnesium in supplemental form.  Magnesium is crucial in over 325 biochemical reactions in the body.  As magnesium plays a central role in cell membrane potential, it is key in the uptake and release of hormones, neurotransmitters, macro minerals (e.g., calcium) and electrolytes.  Literally hundred of disorders are associated with sub-optimal tissue levels vitamin C and magnesium.

Buffered Vitamin C

(500mg. Capsules - pH 6.8) - Possesses virtually all the benefits of Hypo-Aller C (above) in a premeasured dose.  A convenient, small, easy-to-swallow capsule.

Electro C Cherry and Lemon

(Effervescent Cherry and Lemon Flavored Powders - pH 6.0) - Fresh and tart, sparkling, flavored, non-caloric, vitamin C electrolyte recharge drink providing 3800mg. of vitamin C and an array of electrolytes per serving.  Because there are no sugars in these products to increase ionic/osmotic concentration, the minerals are rapidly absorbed.  Translated:  this means that there is no sweet syrupiness to slow rehydration or electrolyte repletion like the big names do.  Sweetened only with stevia.
